Highlighting Contemporary Art in Georgia: Picture This
November 18, 2023 - February 18, 2024
This traveling exhibition features the work of twelve painters living and working in Georgia who focus on narrative. They are “a diverse group of artists experimenting in narrative painting,” said Didi Dunphy, director, Lyndon House Arts Center. “Each of their own stylistic interpretations, conceptual investigations, cultural messaging, and beauty are represented in this show.”
In this remarkable collection, the artists—each in their own distinctive, unique style— use the power of paint and other media to tell diverse stories. From vivid depictions of everyday life to photorealist still lifes, these works capture the essence of contemporary art in our state and region.
The artists whose works are featured in this exhibition are Bo Bartlett and Orion Wertz, of Columbus; Holly Coulis, Cheryl Goldsleger, Margaret Morrison, and Ridley Howard, of Athens; Shanequa Gay, Fahamu Pecou, Dianna Settles, and Tori Tinsley, of Atlanta; Melissa Huang of Statesboro; and Cedric Smith of Macon.
Highlighting Contemporary Art in Georgia was organized by the Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia, and the Lyndon House Arts Center. It is supported in part by the W. Newton Morris Charitable Foundation, the Friends of the Georgia Museum of Art, and the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. The Council is a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
