Become a Docent! 2010 Docent Training

The Morris Museum of Art is accepting applications for its 2010 docent training program and will host an information session for prospective docents at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, in the museum auditorium. The museum is located in downtown Augusta at 1 Tenth Street.

Volunteer docents lead tours, assist with special events, greet museum guests, and participate in continuing education classes. Docent volunteers enjoy meeting students and members of the public and engaging museum visitors in learning experiences through the visual arts.

Docent training is an intensive program designed to provide docent candidates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to lead interpretive tours. The training is organized into discrete modules incorporated into a thirteen-week course. Trainees are expected to attend all training sessions and complete assigned readings and research assignments.

The 2010 docent-in-training classes will begin on September 14 and continue weekly on Tuesday mornings through December 14. Meetings are held in the museum auditorium and in the permanent collection galleries.
