SCHEDULE A TOUR

School tour programs are available Tuesday through Friday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tours must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Please consult your school's vacation, testing, and special activity calendars before making your request.

To make reservations, call the education assistant at 706-828-3867.

Have this information on hand when scheduling a tour by phone:

  • Teacher names
  • School name, address, phone, fax, and email
  • Title of tour program you are requesting
  • Preferred dates and times (select more than one possible date)
  • Number of students
  • Number of adult chaperones
  • Any special needs or requests

Confirm
You will receive a confirmation form of your booking by fax or mail. Please confirm the date, time, and number of students on the form provided and mail or fax it to the museum immediately.

Notify the museum as soon as possible of any changes or cancellations so that other school groups can be scheduled in your place, and so that volunteer museum guides assigned and prepared to lead your students may be notified.

Fees

  • All tour programs: $2.00 per student, age six years or older. Activities require an additional $2 per student. Teachers and chaperones are free.

Accessibility
All tour programs are accessible for students with disabilities. Please inform the museum at time of scheduling if special arrangements are required.

Preparation

  • Download the appropriate resource packet
  • Discuss the museum etiquette guidelines included in the packet.
  • Explain the agenda for the day to the students—where they are going, how long it will take, and what they can expect to see.
  • Encourage students to return to the museum at another time to look at other artworks.
  • Divide students into groups ahead of time to save time at the museum. Students in pre-K through second grade need to be in groups no larger than ten students each. Students in third through twelfth grades should be in groups of no more than fifteen. Each group must have at least one chaperone.
  • Prepare you chaperones. Remind them they are responsible for the conduct of the group and must stay with the group at all times. You may wish to distribute copies of the tour resource packet to chaperones.
  • Read your confirmation letter. This packet contains further information to help make the tour go smoothly.
