Morris Museum of Art Named an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution

Created by the Smithsonian Institution's Board of Regents in 1997, the Affiliations Program is intended to draw the Smithsonian closer to all of America. The Morris Museum is the 123rd affiliate named, and third among Georgia's art museums, the High Museum in Atlanta and the Telfair Museum in Savannah being the others.

As Morris Museum founder and chairman William S. Morris III has noted, "To be designated an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution is a signal honor for the Morris Museum. It's particularly meaningful for the Morris as it will help us to expand on the already vital relationship this museum enjoys with the communities it serves."

The affiliation with the Morris enables the Smithsonian to expand its reach as an institution in its service to the American public and to broaden the availability of its collections and resources.

“This affiliation enables us to expand exponentially what the Morris can do in support of its various educational initiatives,” according to Morris director Kevin Grogan. “The Smithsonian's 'Intern Partnership' and 'Visiting Professional' programs, as well as the availability of staff training and development programs present us with some truly remarkable opportunities, and the prospect of expanding our already considerable public programming efforts through such Smithsonian programs as Voices of Discovery and Scholars in the Schools, is positively head-spinning. We are very pleased by this association.

”The Morris's status as a Smithsonian Affiliate offers museum members significantly expanded benefits as part of both basic and premium membership packages.
