Appraisal Day at the Morris

Two of the Morris Museum of Art's affiliate groups, the Morris 100 and Friends of African American Art, present the museum's biennial Appraisal Day on Saturday, February 9, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Expert appraisers from Neal Auction Company of New Orleans, Louisiana, will be present at the museum to appraise art, antiques, and collectibles.

“Appraisal Day is always an immensely popular event at the museum,” said Lauren Powell, membership services coordinator at the Morris Museum of Art. “It gives people the opportunity to discover the true value of their belongings, whether it is a family antique that has been passed down from generation to generation or a painting recently purchased at a yard sale.”

The morning begins with a preview brunch from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. for members of the Morris 100 and Friends of African American Art who are invited to preview the day's activities, giving them a better understanding of what to look for when purchasing art and antiques.

From 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., the public is invited to bring porcelain, pottery, glass, fine art (paintings, prints, drawings, old photographs, and posters), and decorative art to be appraised. (Weapons, coins, war memorabilia, clothing, stamps, and sports collectibles should be left at home.) Appraisal fees are just $10 per object, or $25 for three objects, and there is a maximum of 3 objects per person. (Appraisals are auction estimates and are not for insurance purposes.)

This event is supported in part by WAGT NBC Augusta and The CW Augusta.
